It goes by different names depending on the card brand; <strong>Visa Secure<\/strong> (formerly <b>Verified by Visa)<\/b>, <b>MasterCard SecureCode<\/b>, <b>American Express SafeKey<\/b>, <b>J\/Secure<\/b>.<\/div>\n<div>During checkout, a transaction using\u00a0<b>3-D Secure<\/b> will initiate a redirection to the website of the card issuing bank to authorize the transaction. Each issuer could use any kind of authentication method including instant mobile text password (the protocol does not cover this).\u00a0 Now mandated in some countries,<\/div>\n<div>3D Secure 2.0 was a complete reprogram, based on input from all the stakeholders, to reduce friction at checkout.<\/div>\n<div><b>3-D Secure<\/b> is the only cardholder identity verification method recognized by the card brands that shifts certain types of fraud liability to the issuer.
